Helping cancer patients with food and shelter.
Passionate about helping cancer patients
My dear friend and mentor was diagnosed with Cancer. It was heartbreaking for all of us. Felt like someone dropped a torpedo. Your soul gets instantly sucked out of you. Your heart stops, and all the sights and sounds around you dull, as if you just put a blur filter on life. A million thoughts cross your head: ‘What do I do now? How much time do I have to live?

The disease started with no signs or symptoms. He was always a health enthusiast and have helped many people who crossed path with him. Since he started the treatment as soon as signs and symptoms were evident, without any delay, surgery and chemo were performed. We all thought he had successfully defeated cancer, was healthy, and started his daily routine soon after the treatment. But, after a few months, cancer relapsed, and this time cancer traveled to the Brain!!!. Relapse was devastating for us, and we started sending his reports to multiple doctors worldwide to get the best possible treatment. His pain and suffering were not only limited to him; we felt the same agony and helplessness as he did. We only wanted his cure at any cost and effort. Someday, were worst, he would use a cane stick to walk, and seeing a healthy bodybuilder and a Police officer in this situation is devastating. But, we all knew he would defeat cancer soon and started with his Chemotherapy. Sadly, he lost the battle after fighting for more than two years. Even while writing this, I still feel the pain as if it was yesterday. Time has not healed the wound yet, and whenever I see Cancer patients, I start to experience the same pain over and over again. It has been over four years since the devastating incident happened, and someday I had sleepless nights because I felt defeated by cancer.
Finally, my sister and I, professionally advocates, have embark on this journey to help as many cancer patients as possible. We want to create awareness for early cancer detection (As in our case, if early detection was carried out, then he would have been alive. If we can do health checkups every year, then why not cancer detection tests every two years ?) and support migrant cancer patients with their food and shelter. Those cancer patients are not happy to come to Mumbai since they have no option but to stay in Mumbai and get themselves treated in Hospitals. Most of them end up in the streets of Mumbai in the hope that they will defeat cancer, and at the same time, they are fighting hunger and shelter, especially when Chemotherapy has taken a toll on their body.
We wish to set up a 24/7 centralized kitchen to feed cancer patients and Support them with accommodation, as taking shelter on the streets can cause other diseases when your body is already weak because of chemo. Unhealthy food and unhygienic living conditions worsen the condition of patients. Eventually, they lose the battle against cancer or opt out of the treatment. Thus, losing a family member.
We hope we all can come together and saves millions of lives.
